There is always something happening at this creative hub.

The Westergasfabriek (literally: Western Gas Factory) is an event venue in the West of Amsterdam, where concerts, exhibitions, food markets, corporate events, parties and festivals such as Amsterdam Dance Event are held.

But there are not just events that take place here, when there isn’t anything on the agenda, you can still visit the complex for the shops, trendy restaurants, galleries and more.

As the name already suggests, the Westergasfabriek (built in 1883) used to be a factory. The factory used to supply Amsterdam with coal gas, which was mainly used for lighting streets and buildings, and at the time it was the largest coal gas plant in the Netherlands. The architect Isaac Gosschalk, who designed most of the buildings in the complex, used a rich style known as Dutch Neo-Renaissance.
