Vliegbasis Soesterberg

**Cycle and trek the runway of a unique air base close to Utrecht in Vliegbasis Soesterberg Park. **

Close to the Nationaal Militair Museum and Utrecht, the aircase of Vliegbasis Soesterberg has managed to slip under the radar of most tourists. Those who wander here come to see the runway and calm natural surroundings. With two marked trails and plenty to see, Vliegbasis Soesterberg park is a unique sight for cyclists and trekkers planning trips near Utrecht.

Mountain bikers and wheelchair users are able to access the trails! One thing everyone should keep in mind, though, is don’t wander off the marked paths. This is a former airbase and there are undetonated explosives in the ground. All marked paths are safe!

Walking & Cycling paths

We recommend doing the Vliegbasis Soesterberg Park route if you’re coming here. Got extra time? The De Paltz route is also nice but not quite the unique experience of the first walk in the ammunition park.

• Vliegbasis Soesterberg Park: a 5 km route through the former ammunition park. A charming forest walk with a twist! You’ll see a clear view of the park and surroundings from the runway, discover nature and three artworks along the trek. The walk is beginner friendly, but not good for young children with a habit of wandering off. No dogs allowed! The walk begins at the Nationaal Militair Museum.
• The Paltz: a 3.4 km walk around De Paltz, an area of the Vliegbasis Soesterberg Park. With sandy landscapes and a beautiful valley, De Paltz is maybe not what you expect from an airbase walk but is short and sweet.
