**The largest campus of Utrecht University is like a modern, small student city. **
The city of Utrecht has two universities: HU University of Applied Sciences and Utrecht University. De Uithof, or Utrecht Science Park is where most of these university buildings are located.
Located between typical Dutch meadows, the campus is like a little modern city on its own. Since 2019 there is a tram going from Utrecht Central Station to the Science Park, and there are some restaurants, coffee bars, sport facilities, bars, supermarkets and student accommodations situated on the campus. There are even places to go for a stroll or to relax in nature, like the Utrecht University Botanical Gardens.
The buildings on campus are all very modern, as the first building was opened in 1961. Some of them have won prizes for their unique architecture. One of the buildings, designed by Rem Koolhaas, called The Ecudatorium, has a glass-bottomed walking bridge and circular walls. Another building, The Minnaertgebouw, used to have a large basin that collected rainwater.
Many of the buildings here are named after the scientists that worked in the field of the faculties that occupy these buildings.
