Check out the chiseled features of this tree-mendous hidden gem, a statue that goes easily unnoticed in one of the most lively squares in Amsterdam.

  • World’s smallest woodcutter? This bronze statue stands 50 centimeters tall (or short) on top of a branch in Leidsebosje park. The tree he sits on has grown around his tiny stature, completely engulfing his shoes and saw.
  • The royal woodcutter? The sculpture was installed in 1989 right around Queen Beatrix’s birthday. Rumor has it the royal art-lover herself was the one that commissioned it!
  • This fun little art piece is well-loved by locals and tourists of Amsterdam. Any geocachers out there? The Little Woodcutter is included in one of the more well-known caches in the city.
