• Ter Apel Monastery first came to be in 1465. Although it was the very last monastery to open in the province, it’s the only one still recognised today out of the 34. And it’s super well preserved. Alongside it’s religious art held in its gallery, Ter Apel is one of the best places to see history in person in Groningen. It is the only rural monastery remaining in this part of Europe!
• What is it like to be a monk? Visit the monk’s dormitories and even put on a habit to dress like a monk as you walk through the medieval corridors.
