**This majestic church is located on the Oudegracht. **

Looking very different from other churches and being a lot newer than most churches in the city (finished in 1840), the St. Augustine Church is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Augustine of Hippo.

The church is built in neoclassical style, designed by Karel Georg Zocher and built as the first large Catholic church in Utrecht since the restoration of religious freedom. It was the successor of an Augustinian clandestine church from 1636 in the Jeruzalemstraat.

Today the church is used by the Saint Salvator Parish in Utrecht. What will catch your eye most is the temple front with the enormous columns on the canal side, topped by a pediment and a little tower of 40 metres high. The main altar was made in 1857 and the organ dates from 1844. Have a look inside to see the impressive interior.
