**This stunning monument was built by pope Adrianus VI and now used as a location for weddings and other events. **

Long description: The year 1517 was when they finished building Paushuize. It is an important monument in Utrecht, as it was built by the only Dutch pope, Adrianus VI. His intention was to have it for his old days, but he unfortunately never got to live there, as he was living in Rome as a pope and passed away there.

After the pope passed away, the building served several functions. It has been a restaurant, a hotel and has been used for meetings for the provincial government.

In 1807, Louis Bonaparte (younger brother of Napoléon Bonaparte) bought it to live in for a couple of weeks, until he could move into his palace at the Wittevrouwenstraat. Nowadays, the place can be rented for events such as weddings.
