Is this the most beautiful spot in all of Utrecht? Discover this famous canal with many monumental buildings.

Nieuwegracht means ‘new canal’. That’s why it makes sense that this canal was built after the famous Oudegracht (old canal), between 1390 and 1393.

They are both the most well-known canals of the city and both have wharf cellars on the water level where you can walk, but where the Oudegracht has a lot going (shops, restaurants, cafés), the Nieuwegracht is a lot quieter.

The Nieuwegracht barely has any stores, but what makes this canal so beautiful is that it is peaceful. More than 100 monumental houses, monumental trees and six bridges spanned from south to north determine the charming image of the street.

Walk past this canal of 0,7 kilometres and admire all the beautiful elements that are a part of it.
