A square with a lot of history, now is a place where people enjoy drinks on one of the many terraces.

Neude is the most popular square in Utrecht, where many restaurants and cafes are located. Most of them have terraces, which are always full in summer.

Before the 15th century, the square was a swamp, this is where the name comes from. In the 15th century, the city decided to make a steady ground out of stone and sand here. It became an important marketplace, as it was located close to the Oudegracht.

The square has had many functions in the meantime. It became a place where executions were held and where bodies from war victims were collected. In the end of the 20th century, Neude became a parking lot, but nowadays it serves as a place where people come together on weekends.
