**An interactive museum on crime and punishment held inside a former prison in Veenhuizen. **

  • Walk through interactive exhibits all about prisons, the law, and crime of the Netherlands. There’s info about the local city throughout, but it’s called the National Prison Museum for a reason. What’s it like to be in a prison? How have punishments changed over the years? Learn all this and more…
  • Wandering the museum exhibits is pretty educational, but we recommend taking the free English audio tour as well to get the extra details and a personal touch. The audio tour is also good for kids!
  • The best part of the museum is the ‘Red Roof Tiles’ exhibit. This is the former prison right next to the museum. You can go on a guided tour and see the inside of the prison from the cells, exercise yard, and the solitary confinement room. One unique part about this prison museum is that you can actually stay overnight in the former guard houses. Now that’s a unique experience!
