**Learn about the local history of Drenthe inside a restored 1800s windmill. **

  • Windmills are an iconic symbol of the Netherlands! Throughout the country, you’re sure to find windmills open to the public. Molenmuseum De Wachter lies in the heart of the Drenthe province, a hidden post to most travellers.
  • Only open two days a week, this little museum is a touch of local history. Run by locals, the 19th century windmill is best seen on a Saturday morning. This is when the windmill is fully operational. There are two exhibits here: the first is all about the wonderful world of bread, the second is all about local professions of the past
  • The local volunteers will give you a talk on local history, not just the windmill itself! You’ll find hints of many local professions here - from blacksmiths to cobblers and old music boxes. The windmill also has a big collection of everyday items, giving this place a nostalgic vibe.
