A man-made archipelago island nature reserve with picturesque walking routes, sandy beaches, and bird watching!

  • Dutch innovation at its finest: Also referred to as the “Islands of tomorrow,” the first of five islands from the reclaimed seaside opened in 2018 and has since been nominated for several Dutch Design Awards! Here’s how it works: the man-made land comes from Lake Marken - one of the largest freshwater lakes in Europe. You can now witness and admire nature restoration in one of the most beautiful parts of The Netherlands!
  • 45 minutes and you’re there! The only way to Marker Wadden is by ferry, but once you’re over, the adventure truly begins. Choose between a guided tour or explore one of the three walking routes on your own: the butterfly route, bird’s eye view route, or the seaside route. At the main pavilion you can pick up a map of the hiking trails and best viewpoints. Want to extend your stay? Marker Wadden has sustainable beach houses to rent for the night, to completely immerse yourself in the silent beachy paradise. You can also camp on the grounds, or even park your own boat here! And while you’re in the area, make sure to check out the Waterloopbos or Oostvaardersplassen! Good to know: Dogs and bikes are not allowed on the island.
  • Reviving the wildlife: Bringing back life above and below the waterline means you’re likely to see thriving aquatic plants, shellfish, and other sea critters! Any avid bird watchers or nature photographers out there? Over 15 different bird species can be found flapping around the land, making it a hotspot for the “birders”!
