A local fave! Worth a detour from Hengelo and Enschede, Kristalbad is known for its two stunning lookout towers. With views of the nature reserve and beyond, Kristalbad is a favourite spot for local trekkers and photographers. Get to the top of a tower for a panoramic view of the lakes. Kristalbad is cyclist friendly!

  • Kristalbad isn’t just a nature preserve. It naturally filters water as well! Water from the two nearby cities flows through here. Come and visit Kristalbad to see its 9 lake reservoirs. Enjoy the view of crystal clear water as the birds fly overhead.
  • The nature reserve is cyclist and hiker friendly. While many trails around Hengelo and Enschede pass through or around Kristalbad, there is a quick-ish trail here for all ability levels worth checking out.

Kristalbad Route

The Kristalbad Route is a beginner friendly, almost totally flat loop around the nature reserve. Cyclist friendly too! Walk for 45 minutes to the best and beautiful parts of Kristalbad, including its two observation towers, lakes, and mud flats.
