**Historic 16th century fort near Middelburg on the edge of the Western Scheldt. Discover Fort Rammekens’ storied past at the exhibit or on a guided tour. **

Built in the Netherlands by a Hungarian saint, designed by an Italian, besieged by Dutch nobles revolting against Spanish rule in 1574 and most recently used as a mushroom farm, Fort Rammekens has quite a bit of history.

Visit this historical site near Middelburg and learn about the fort’s 16th century roots, it’s role supplying the ships of the United East India Company and its decline during the Napoleonic era.
