Historic and beautiful 17th century Castle Amerongen. Explore its many rooms and garden.
Castle Amerongen is a charming 17th century manor house. It’s been home to various nobles over the years, including German Kaiser Wilhelm II who lived here for two years when he signed his abdication. That alone would put it on the map. But Castle Amerongen is also worth a visit thanks to its beautiful natural surroundings and garden.
Inside Kasteel Amerongen, you’ll go on a guided tour of the rooms (in Dutch and English) to learn more about the castle’s history and see its authentic interior. The tour also has activities for kids to do. It’s worth checking out the gardens that are made up of four parts here - the forest park and the flower garden both look lovely in the summer and autumn.
Hike away! Kasteel Amerongen has beautiful hiking areas right on its doorstep. Wandelroute Amerongse bovenpolder-oost takes you through the floodplains through the nature reserve. The 4km route is beginner friendly and is closed from October 1 to April 1. Find more information on the route here.
