**Dig a little deeper to find one of the best museums in Utrecht. And it’s based in an old Roman fort! **
- Discover traces of Roman history at Castellum Hoge Woerd. Inside an ex-Roman garrison, this museum holds a 2,000+ year old Roman boat and more. Castellum Hoge Woerd is THE museum to visit for anyone interested in history and archaeology. The old ship is certainly worth seeing, but don’t miss the reconstructed Roman watchtower.
- Family friendly! There’s actually a couple of areas in and outside the museum that are great for the kids. Don’t miss the small petting zoo with rabbits, pigs, and more. The outdoor play area is good when the sun is out and it’s close to the restaurant. On those rainy days, there’s a small kids indoor play area. Plus, the displays have info panels and some ways to interact with the museum so it’ll be an educational visit.
- You won’t be disappointed if you’re just wandering around the museum on a self-guided tour. But a guided tour does offer up more info (only in Dutch!). If you’re coming by on a Saturday or Sunday, reserve your place online. The kids are welcome too!
