**Head over to this bustling harbour town in Zeeland. Walk along the sandy North Sea beaches and snap a pic of the striking lighthouse. **
Just behind the sand dunes along the Zeeland coast you’ll find the beachside harbour town of Breskens. Get maritime vibes at the marina and go for a stroll, or sunbathe, on the town's 1km wide sandy beach.
Find the oldest preserved cast-iron lighthouse in the Netherlands on the beach at Bresekens. The black and white striped octagonal structure dates back to 1867 and is the sight to see in the town. A scenic 40 minute walk from the town centre, along the beaches will get you there. Bring your cameras for this one!
- Breakfast on the Beach:...or lunch, or dinner! There are plenty of beachside restaurants and cafes in Breskens. It's a great place to sample Zeeland’s seafood staples like oysters and Oosterschelde lobster.
- Boat Trip! Catch the Westerschelde ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen, it takes about 20 mins. You can stay in Vlissingen and enjoy the North Sea views from there, or hop back over to Breskens. FYI, it does get pretty busy during tourist season.
- Seal Spotting: Book a round trip on the old mussel cutter, De Festijn. Boat across the Westerschelde and see the seals chilling out on the sandbanks.
- Fishing Festivities: At the beginning of August you’ll find the annual fish festival being celebrated in the marina, popular with locals and tourists alike.
- Fish, fish and more fish: If you’re really interested in fishing you might want to check out the Fishing Museum in the marina. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and closed during the winter. Adult tickets cost 5.50€ and kids go for 4.50€.
Combine a visit to Breskens with a trip to the spa town Cadzand Bad. After a walk to the lighthouse, head along the coast and treat yourself to a relaxing treatment or two.
