Step back in time to WWII at the house of Anne Frank where she wrote her infamous journals while hiding from the Nazis.
- Anne Frank’s family had to go into hiding during the second world war on July 6th, 1942. They found shelter in Otto Frank’s work building, which had a back house with a secret annex. Anne Frank--along with 7 other people--lived for two years in the upper floors in hiding. This is where Anne Frank wrote her diary. Her diary is now one of the most important and most read books in the world.
- The Anne Frank Museum has been open since 1960, and welcomes over a million visitors a year from all over the world. Walking through the house really brings history to life, making Anne’s writing all the more poignant. As you walk through the museum, you’ll get detailed and reliable information on the time Anne and her family spent in hiding, shown through pictures and quotes hung up on the wall.
- With your ticket comes a free audio tour in 9 languages, essential to the tour and covers the history of WW2, the people in hiding, and their helpers. Additionally, an introductory program can be added to your ticket purchase, which gives you a 30 minute introduction of Anne Frank's story by one of the museum's staff.
- Diary room: You can view the original red-checkered diary that Anne filled up during her two years in hiding. She had received the diary on her 13th birthday, just weeks before moving into the secret annex. There is also a new exhibit as of this year called “A room full of dreams” that showcases the postcards Anne had hung up in her hidden room.
