Discover this great hiking area and some beautiful views just on the outskirts of Maastricht.

  • A mountain? In the Netherlands? Sort of. Mount Saint Peter or Mount Sint Pieter, is definitely the closet thing you'll get to a mountain around here.
  • Part of the Caestert Plateau which runs into Belgium, Mount Sint Pieter is - unsurprisingly - a great hiking area in the Netherlands. Its a pretty unique walking spot in the country what with all the hills!
  • On top of the mountain Fort Sint Pieter looks down over Maastricht. Built around the 17th century, the towering location was the perfect for a military outlook.
  • Most hiking routes conveniently start at the parking lot near at the fort. Walking trails in this area will serve you with great views across Limburg province's green landscape. Try this 8km loop which shows you the best of Mount Saint Peter and includes café pit stop as a bonus! .

The hike has many paths to choose from in the beginning and is very accessible, so everybody can visit. The viewing platform is the highlight of the hike with it's beautiful landscape and the play of colors there.
