Ohrid

Macedonia has some 748 km of boundaries, shared with Serbia to the North, Kosovo to the northwest, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It is a transit way for shipment of goods from Greece, through the Balkans, towards Eastern, Western and Central Europe and through Bulgaria to the east.

The landscape of the region is made of lakes and mountains. If you are a nature lover you should probably make a stop in the region, in the Ohrid Lake, the Prespa Lake, the Karaorman mountains, the Illinska mountains or the Smolari waterfalls. There are also some nice monasteries to visit, such as the monastery of Bogorodica and the monastery of Saint Leontius.

Southwestern

Church St. Sofia in Ohrid is one of the most significant monuments of medieval art and architecture in Macedonia.The church was built during the First Bulgarian Empire, after the official conversion to Christianity. Some sources date the building of the church during the rule of Knyaz Boris I (852 – 889).
