A small village surrounded by water that is home to 3 heritage museums, and of course beautiful old windmills and canals, you can visit for a postcard-perfect scene.

Kinderdijk is recognised as a part of Unesco World Heritage since 1997 and created a reputation of the Dutch heritage and pride in signature scenery known across the world.

To visit, you can get your tickets online to see the three museum mills and embark on a canal cruise.

  • See the Wisboom pumping station that stands on the glittering water of the canals to reach out to the history of Kinderdijk windmills. The evaluation of the modern water pump began with a stamping steam engine and later on an electric pumping station. - Brute machine power was used here to pump the water as the methods became more advanced over time. Though could they have imagined the current system of using pure wind power today.
  • Audio tours and an educational film shown will give you insight into the historic Wisboom pumping station and how this water management site was used by locals to work with their unique geography for centuries.
  • Boezems Kinderdijk is a nearby nature reserve with canals running through the fields and Nederwaard windmills.

Walking at Kinderdijk

This is a beautiful area for a walk in quintessentially Dutch surroundings. Try the Kinderdijkpad, a 7.4km walk around the ponds, polders and windmills. Its an easy route and good for kids. Want something longer? You can extend the hike to an 11km loop or even longer if you really want to stretch your legs.
