Since the Middle Ages the lands of Monticelli belonged to the bishop of Parma, and even at the time of the free communes they depended on the city. It was established when the lordships Monticelli became part of the fief of Montechiarugolo. In 1632 the estate passed to the ducal House of Farnese, and the history of Monticelli became confused again with that of the Duchy of Parma. From that moment we no longer speak of Monticelli until 1924, when they were discovered its thermal waters. With the discovery of the thermal waters from the Borrini family, Monticelli assumes the modern name and starts a new impetus, developing around this important factor of economic recovery and at the same time safeguarding the environment. Monticelli Terme, in his new role, is therefore a recently setting the center, which has been able, however, to safeguard its historical and environmental salient features. Among the most valuable monuments include the Church of San Donnino Martire, Villa Mariotti- Micheli and the Temple of San Giulio.
