The building overlooking Piazza del Popolo, designed by Eng. Carlo Tourniquets and built in 1928, was used in the early days in the Theatre and House of Fascism, although its simple and linear structure does not address at all the modernist modules in vogue in those days. The building is refined by a loggia built on the roof terrace, designed to be used for fencing and the gymnastic exercises. Renovated in the 60s and 80s and the subject of further work qualification in recent years, the theater has a room with two places orders (stalls and balcony) for 480 seats in total to sit.
From 1965 to 2012, the theater has been associated with the name bolognese comedy writer Alfredo Testoni (who is called the Theatre Foyer), while from 2012 to 2015 was adopted the name "Public. The Teatro di Reno". In July 2015, as part of a review of cultural and management structure of the Teatro Comunale (the term of the Emilia Romagna Theatre Foundation started since 2005) management, it has established a new dedication to Laura Betti, actress and singer born in Casalecchio di Reno in 1927 and passed away in 2004. the figure of Laura Betti embodies many aspects of the new cultural setting of the Theatre: a multidisciplinary, with a career in theater, film and music; the bond on one side with Casalecchio and the metropolitan area, the other with the national and international cultural scene; the commitment to be contemporary, attentive to the dynamics of a country "unconcerned", including through deep and enduring bond with Pier Paolo Pasolini. The new logo of the "Teatro Comunale Laura Betti", presented in autumn 2015, takes up this connection between the plaintiff's personal and artistic history and identity of the theater, with its careful and critical look at that, "halved" and decentralized , it needs to be complemented by participatory gaze of the viewer.
By 30 June 2015 and until 30 June 2017, the programming of theatrical activities and the management of the Theatre are entrusted in agreement with ATER - Theatrical Association Emilia Romagna, that within the reorganization of the performing arts sector is a candidate for the role of Theatrical circuit Multidisciplinary for the scope of the Emilia-Romagna Region
