THE AGRICULTURAL PARK-RIVER The territory of the South Oglio Park covers, with varying width from a few meters to over three kilometers along the entire course of the river that goes dall'affluenza the river Mella, on the border with North Oglio Park in the municipality of Ostiano (CR) at the confluence with the Po River, in which the Oglio is entered after a distance of about 70 kilometers, affecting the province of Cremona and Mantua, among which the river marks, for long stretches, the administrative boundary. The landscape is characterized by agriculture where the thick water network often marked by shrubby bands and rows, interrupts the orderly series of crops. The riverside areas stand out in the campaign for the imposing wooded masses of the poplars and the dense white willow borders that sometimes extend up to provide a genuine woods. PARK AT WORK The role of the Park, beyond the evident purpose of preservation of the natural heritage that characterizes each protected area, is to function as a laboratory for sustainable development and for the restoration of the river landscape, in its natural and cultural components. gradually return to natural river areas actually means ensuring greater efficiency as an ecological system, and more attractive both for those who live there and visitors. Foster a recovery of the cultural value of the landscape means to grow in the inhabitants a stronger sense of belonging. This operation is conducted by the Park with the direct participation of the farmers, through a varied system of incentives and management contracts, with the involvement of schools that are guided to use the territory as a gym teaching outdoors for scientific observation, 'spatial analysis, for expressive anthropological type activities and participatory planning and finally with the local associations that collaborate actively to the animation festivals and cultural events. In addition to improving the state of conservation of river areas, the expected results are the new professional spreading in forestry and the renaturation and growth in the population of greater awareness of the environmental and cultural value of its territory.
