Desenzano del Garda

Once the core of the mighty Roman Empire, and the cradle of the Renaissance, it is also home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, including high art and monuments. The "Giovanni Rambotti" Civic Archaeological Museum is located in Desenzano del Garda and collects archaeological finds found in the Desenzano area, dating back to a period between the Paleolithic and the Middle Ages, with the main focus on the pile dwellings of the lower Garda Brescia area. Since 2011, the transnational serial site Prehistoric pile-dwelling sites in the Alpine Arc has become part of the UNESCO Heritage.
