The Art Gallery "The Twentieth Century" was born in Salerno in 1987 in via Posidonia. Immediately brought artists such as Cascella, Guttuso, Sassu, Cat, Cazzaniga, Coffee, Borghese, Treccani, Ferraro, Prestileo, Giorgi, Scalco, Bonanni in solo and group exhibitions. Year after year was followed by a growing number of collectors and enthusiasts attracting the attention of critics and audiences. In 1991 the gallery has opened a new exhibition space in Piazza Portanova, in the heart of Salerno, organizing major exhibitions like those of Randall Morgan, Salvatore Fiume and John Barbisan, the latter with the presentation and the visit of Vittorio Sgarbi. During the summer it edited exhibition centers in resorts such as Amalfi, Maratea, Palinuro. In 1995 it was inaugurated the summer seat of Portoferraio (Elba) with the permanent exhibition of works by masters of the '900 Italian as Sironi, Rosai, Campigli, Gentilini, Dova, De Chirico and others. The seat of Salerno center is transferred in 2000 in Via Velia 36. Will continue to deal with exhibitions of well-established artists and new talents are also presented the international art scene as Aguzzi, De Lucchi, Grimaldi, Grandi, Musante, Fox, Giusti, Caponi, Massagrande, Faccincani, Palumbo, Toffoletti. In 2002 and 2003 the town of Portoferraio has entrusted to the gallery the task of nurturing our cultural program by using the "Telemaco Signorini" room and the "Theatre of the Watchers", newly restored historic structures and rifunzionalizzate, as poles of cultural life of the town. The event was called "culture of Portoferraio harbor" - painters and writers of our time -. They have been part of the program artists as: Arlati, Squillantini, Albert, Fox, Aguzzi; a collective of sculptors like Mitoraj, Botero, Manzu, Greek, tomato, Messina; writers such as: Bevilacqua, Zecchi, Pasini, Spinosa, Myths. From Portoferraio, the gallery moved the headquarters summer in 2010 in Sardinia, Poltu Quatu (Costa Smeralda). Permanently you are presented numerous works by the sculptor Gianfranco Meggiato. As always, even in this new space, the gallery offers artists now established in the national and international but with attentive look to young people, a source of artistic innovations and cultural innovations.
