Covering the bottleneck part of eastern India, West Bengal includes two distinctive areas – sub-Himalayan and Himalayan region in the north and the Gangetic Plain in the south. From beautiful hills and forests in the Darjeeling Himalayan range to the Ganges delta to the coastal Sundarbans and quiet beaches – there are so many places to see in this breath-taking part of India. Speaking of its nature, it has to be mentioned that Wes Bengal has 6 national parks and 15 wildlife sanctuaries. The mangrove estuaries of Sundarbans are the natural habitat of the endangered royal Bengal tigers. Unlike many cities in India, the architecture of Kolkata, also known as the “cultural capital of India”, reflects some European styles, predominantly British. Often referred to as the “city of joy”, Kolkata was the capital of British India from 1771 to 1911. Famous for its carnivals and celebrations, West Bengal is hosts some of the most interesting festivals in India – Durga Puja, Push Mela and Gangasagar Mela.

The Shiraz Golden Restaurant is a Mughlai establishment in the Park Street area of Kolkata. It was established in 1941. Mohammed Arshad Ali and Ali Hussain founded the eatery and persuaded Chef Shamsuddin, a descendant of one of the chefs of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, to come and join them. It is one of the best places in the city to enjoy Kolkata-style biryani. The restaurant remains open from 12 PM to 11:30 PM.
