Speaking of its nature, it has to be mentioned that Wes Bengal has 6 national parks and 15 wildlife sanctuaries. The mangrove estuaries of Sundarbans are the natural habitat of the endangered royal Bengal tigers. Unlike many cities in India, the architecture of Kolkata, also known as the “cultural capital of India”, reflects some European styles, predominantly British. Often referred to as the “city of joy”, Kolkata was the capital of British India from 1771 to 1911. Famous for its carnivals and celebrations, West Bengal is hosts some of the most interesting festivals in India – Durga Puja, Push Mela and Gangasagar Mela.
