The Urban Garden 48 officially opened on 18 June in the well-known area of ​​Armatals & Thieves 48, which has been housed since 1988 by the Center for Contemporary Art, Ileana Tounta. This urban garden is an initiative of Ileana Tounta and Giorgos Varvaritis and emerged from the need to create a quality dining space focusing on contemporary aesthetics and unpretentious atmosphere.

A source of inspiration for both of them was a modern "objet trouvé", an airstream that arrived in Athens from abroad and redesigned into a food truck for the needs of 48 Urban Garden. The owners tried to create a 190-square-meter garden in the form of the exterior, which unfolds in the city center. For this reason the architectural office AK-A (www.ak-a.gr Katerina Apostolou, Minna Kolakis) (mechanical engineer Dimitris Dionysios) designed a sculptural space formed on various levels by wooden platforms and sitting benches, picnic tables , Vegetable gardens with vegetables, fruits and herbs and flower beds. Under the shade created by umbrellas and trees, guests enjoy their food and drink during the day. The study of the plants of the garden was designed by Patsis Mitarakis.

The natural light and relaxed atmosphere of the garden is transported inside the restaurant on an area of ​​240 square meters. The two-story central space accommodates the air-conditioned carriage with a fully equipped kitchen where chefs prepare meals from fresh seasonal vegetables. Artificial ivy that covers walls and ceilings and the oversized wooden bench create a surreal space at the same time warm of light bulbs, wooden comfortable chairs, green stools and yellow tables. The crisp and clear lines are highlighted by the color palette of white and green tones. The furnishings and fixtures are specially designed for the restaurant by the AK-A architectural office.

In addition to the space, Ileana Tounta and George Varvaritis put a lot of emphasis on the 48 Urban Garden team and consciously chose new creative people. The menu of the period 2015-2016 was made by the chef Stefanos Stephanidis and his creative team. The bar of the restaurant is based on the creation of original long drinks with herbs from the garden bohemian. All of this, of course, at very affordable prices that go hand in hand with the spirit of the era. The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday after 20.00.
