The permanent exhibition in the Heinrich-Sauermann-Haus shows art and cultural history of the former Duchy of Schleswig, gives an insight into the history of Flensburg and presents a treasury of gold, silver and faience. In the children's area our youngest visitors can make a journey back in time with their clothes, an old classroom and toys.
In the neighboring Hans-Christiansen-Haus with our collection of paintings of Schleswig-Holstein art from the 19th to the 21st century, valuable pieces of furniture from classicism and other styles are hidden. Several rooms are dedicated to the Art Nouveau style with famous Scherrebek carpets and major works by the Flensburg artist Hans Christiansen. Expressionism is represented by outstanding artists such as Emil Nolde, Erich Heckel, Wenzel Hablik or Ernst Barlach. A separate exhibition area is dedicated to the contemporary art of the north.
The permanent exhibition of the museum is supplemented by changing special exhibitions in both houses.
Parking is available at the Reepschlägerbahn.
