Our hotel stands on the historic grounds of the former Cistercian monastery "Marienthron" to Nimbschen. The most famous nun was Katharina von Bora, the Lutheran, whose 500th birthday we celebrated in 1999. She was born on 29 January 1499 as the daughter of an impoverished nobleman and lived from 1509 - 1523 in the abbey at Grimma.

The place was known by Katharina's spectacular escape on 6/7. April 1523, which gave rise to different stories. One of them tells the story of the theater group of the "St. Augustin" Gymnasium, which is performed on appropriate occasions in front of the historical backdrop of the monastery ruins.

The prominent nun should have escaped from the monastic prison with several sisters. According to legend, the Torgau councilor Leonhard Köppe, hidden in herring barrels, brought them via Torgau to Wittenberg. The lost shoe when getting out of a window or climbing over the wall is still kept as a loving (if not authentic) gem in the Heimatmuseum Grimma.

On June 13, 1525 she married in Wittenberg the well-known Reformer Martin Luther.

Katharina von Bora was an exceptional woman who was far ahead of her time. With her escape from the monastery and the wedding, she decided for the Reformation. The "most famous parish priest in the world" was not only an excellent housekeeper, but also a realistic adviser to her often-idealistic husband. Luther often called her tenderly and respectfully, "Dear Mr. Käthe." In a letter he wrote: "To my kind housewife Katharina Luther from Bora, preacher, brewer, gardener and what they are more ...".
