Hamburg

With about 82 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state of the European Union. Germany's capital and largest metropolis is Berlin, while its largest conurbation is the Ruhr, with its main centres of Dortmund and Essen. The country's other major cities are Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Bremen, Dresden, Hannover, and Nuremberg. Elevation ranges from the mountains of the Alps in the south to the shores of the North Sea in the northwest and the Baltic Sea  in the northeast. The forested uplands of central Germany and the lowlands of northern Germany are traversed by such major rivers as the Rhine, Danube and Elbe. Germany's alpine glaciers are experiencing deglaciation. When thinking of Germany, beer, lederhosen and Alpine hats quickly come to mind, but these stereotypes mostly relate to Bavarian culture and do not represent Germany as a whole. Germany is a vast and diverse country with 16 culturally unique states that have been politically united since 1871. Even within states there is often considerable cultural diversity.

It is home to more than 5 millions inhabitants. Hamburg is located on the Elbe a few kilometers from the North Sea. Widely bombed during the Second World War, Hamburg has preserved today some traces of its historical heritage. The city is well known for its nightlife, and famous St. Paul's district. Tourists go there to enjoy its cultural vitality: events, museums (including the Museum of Fine Arts and Decorative Arts), opera, concerts and a famous nightlife. It has preserved spaces of greenery which allow to breathe fresh air after wandering downtown. These places are found especially on the banks of the Alster. The city also has a municipal park and a botanical garden named 'Planten a Blomen'.

On 4 October 2016, the gates will open for the ninth season in the legendary Hansa Theater. Since its reopening in January 2009, around 420,000 visitors have visited the traditional house on Steindamm. Together with the Hamburger Abendblatt and the Fischereihafen-Restaurant, the St. Pauli Theater again presents a modern entertainment concept consisting of the best vaudeville, alternately presented by cabaret artists and top-class actors. And that has it all.
