The permanent exhibition presents the most important regional exhibits from the fields of painting and graphic arts, arts and crafts, cultural history, fishing and shipping. With a varied program of special exhibitions and film and lecture events on topics from the 19th and 20th centuries, the museum pursues the goal of presenting the collection areas of the house not only from an art and cultural history, but also from a media history perspective. With an interactive children's section and the Hamburg children's bookstore e.V., the Altonaer Museum has become a popular excursion destination for families.
