Founded in 1985, Ilves Theater is an amateur theater in Käpylä, Helsinki.
Ilves Theater is an independent, freely operating association whose primary objective is to create a fresh and interesting new theater without pressure from profit responsibility. Our core values are freedom and security. Freedom means artistic freedom to make a theater like it wants. Security means a safe and democratic community where it is possible to experiment, develop and dare.
Ilves is a theater that looks like its members. This means that Ilves does not have artistic leadership or other paid staff, but each member is responsible for the development of the theater and the continuity of its activities. That is why every member has the same opportunity to influence what happens inside the theater. The goal is to encourage all members to unleash their own ideas, both on the stage and outside. Ilves Theater annually produces 4-6 productions and two short theater festivals (ILVESLIVES! And Räntäkarkelot). In the summer, we will be working together at the Kumpula Forest Theater with the Kellarit Theater in Helsinki.
Ilves Theater is one of the three student theaters in Helsinki. However, this does not mean that the members of the Ilves Theater should be students or even study in high school. In addition to SYTY, Ilves is also a member of the Finnish Amateur Theater Association (SHT).
