The museum is located on the old slott bank on the southern edge of Tønder and conducts research and dissemination of the Southern German handicrafts and art industry. The museum's basic exhibitions show examples of good crafts, especially in the form of lace, silver, furniture, fajances and Dutch tiles. The furniture rooms show the city and the town's furniture culture from 1600-1850, especially the closets, which were often very large and beautifully decorated. In addition, there is one or more special exhibitions pertaining to the museum's areas of responsibility each year.
