A hilltop, medieval monastery with a Baroque church, impressive library, and more!

This Premonstratensian monastery was founded in 1140. In the complex, there are a few rooms including the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

  • Along with the rare Strahov Library with a number of medieval manuscripts, maps and globes.
  • The Baroque Theological Hall
  • The Classical Philosophy Hall decorated with frescoes
  • The Strahov Gallery: one of the most significant Central European collections of Gothic painting, Rudolfian art, Baroque and Rococo paintings.

The beautiful complex overlooks the city and vineyards from the hilltop, offering incredible views. In addition to the famous library and church that usually bring people here, the Strahov Monastery is also home to other interesting activities such as... Museum of National Literature, Museum of Miniatures, Monastic Brewery, MIRO Gallery, and a few nice restaurants!

It is the perfect place to spend a few hours walking around and admiring history and beauty.

Open daily throughout the year from 9.00-17:00, with a lunchtime break from 12:00-13:00 (Closed for the 24th and the 25th of December and Easter Sunday)
