Do you know a thing or two about Porsche cars? Welcome to the birth house of the founding father of Porsche.

Interested in cars? Then stop by Ferdinand's birth house. Ferdinand Porsche was born in 1875 in Vratislavice nad Nisou. His father was the owner of a plumbing company and the young Ferdinand often helped him out with the family business.

Long story short, Ferdinand was interested in electrical engineering and at the age of 18 he left his home country and went to study in Vienna. Then, he became the designer of several electric cars and even assembled the first hybrid car in 1898. In the museum you can find a replica of the Porsche 356 No.1, designed by Ferdinand Porsche together with his son Ferry.

Inside the museum: discover an interactive museum experience on engineering and technology. Along with a bit of historic information on the family, area, and about the automotive industry. You’ll definitely learn a thing or two about cars throughout the exhibition.

  • Ferdinand became the chief designer of Daimler in Stuttgart, built several racing specials and also the first luxury sedan for Mercedes-Benz. So it’s safe to say cars are definitely a big part of his DNA.
  • Ferdinand also played a big role in creating the first prototype of the Volkswagen car known today as the Beetle.
  • Throughout the museum you’ll find a lot of interesting information about the origin of the car and the inventions that helped grow the car industry into what it is today.

  • Near the museum you will find the beautiful castle park.
  • There is a nice cafe inside the museum.
  • In the car park you can find an interesting gallery of photos from the Le-mans races.

Getting There

  • By Car: You can park right next to the museum.
  • By Tram: From the main or bus station in Liberec, take tram No.3, change at the Fügnerova stop, catch tram No.5 and get off at the Lékárna stop. Then you walk on foot towards Jablonec nad Nisou along the main road along the tram tracks for about 150 meters and you will reach the museum.
