The Eva Wilma Theater has an interesting history because, in fact, the initial project featured only a multi-sport court that became a Cultural Center. It all started with the purchase of some lots adjacent to Mary Ward College to build the building where preschool and elementary school now works. As the court built in this building was not official and the grandstand did not have many students, headquarters of the Institute authorized the purchase of some more land so that the construction of the new block could take place. And so once again the school is seen amidst bricks, woods, irons and so many other materials needed for a work, besides, of course, a lot of people working. After the construction began, the engineer said that it would not be possible to carry out the project because the City Hall demanded a retreat of 50% of the area, according to the legislation, thus preventing it from being an official court. There were then two exits: either they would build a church, or a theater, for both would need a 25% retreat only. As the school already has a chapel and an oratory, and the region, several churches, the happy idea was born to build the theater on the first floor and the court on top. From there the movement became another, the theater became the great attraction and many doubts arose: Would it be for exclusive use of the school? Could it be rented for other activities? Would you enter the commercial and artistic circuit of São Paulo? What name would it have? The construction ended and the theater, being owned by an Educational Institution, extended, in the cultural and artistic part, to the neighborhood and the great São Paulo and was classified as one of the best in the region. With capacity for 700 seats, it was equipped with the most modern sound, clothing and light features; has ample parking, eight dressing rooms, large coxias and independent entrance for artists. The name Eva Wilma was chosen because it expresses qualities such as integrity, seriousness and talent, everything the theater will privilege in its programming. The official premiere took place on November 14 when Eva Wilma presented "Vivinha" by Marta Góes, written in honor of her 50th birthday. The piece brings together several characters played by Eva Wilma throughout her career, as well as remarkable moments in her life. The Eva Wilma Theater is located at Rua Antônio de Lucena, 146, in Tatuapé, and opened its doors to the public on November 15.
