Santa Clara Convent is located in Sucre, Bolivia. It was founded in 1636 by its generous benefactress Doña María de Ceballos. Her heart was set on establishing Franciscan nuns dedicated to St Clair in Sucre, back then called Charcas. Independent nuns’ cells are situated on two floors around the lovely patio of what is still a running, enclosed monastery. The arches are supported by ornate sandstone columns. © iStock-Markpittimages
