**Now that’s art! See XL artworks inside one of the best kept secrets of Brussels. **
Only a quick walk away from the popular Muséum des Sciences Naturelles of Brussels is an artsy hidden gem in the Ixelles neighbourhood. Musée Wiertz is full of artworks by the Belgian painter Antoine Wiertz.
Back in the 19th century, Antoine Wiertz was a romantic artist who loved the big and the bold. He’s most well-known for the large-scaled paintings you’ll see in the museums, but he was also a writer and sculptor. One of his best known pieces is the grand 8m long ‘Greeks and Trojans fighting over the body of Patroclus’.
The art museum is only a couple of rooms big, so it doesn’t take long to see everything. But it’s totally free! And since the Wiertz is right next door to Leopold Park and the Natural Science Museum, there’s really no reason not to visit.
While the spotlight is on the big paintings, there’s also smaller artworks and sculptures to see here as well. Not to be missed for art lovers and hidden gem seekers, the Wiertz Museum is one place mostly unknown to the tourist crowds of Brussels.
