**Voted prettiest walk in Flanders at one point, this walk takes you to the start of the Voer river. Explore a knightly castle and beautiful nature spot. **
Walk an award-winning trail in this secluded part of Limburg. Discover Voeren by foot, an easily forgotten part of Limburg sandwiched between Wallonia and the Netherlands. Set in beautiful countryside, the Bronnenwandeling takes you to the mouth of the river Voer and was voted the prettiest walk in Flanders by a local TV show in 2012.
This 8.5km loop around Voeren should take around 2 and a half hours and isn’t too difficult, it wouldn’t hurt to have a bit of walking experience though. You’ll be walking through Sint-Martens-Voeren to Sint-Pieters-Voeren and then on to Veurs, with plenty of pretty scenery along the way. One of the highlights of the route is passing the impressive Kasteel Commanderie, which you can explore before getting back to your walk.
Oh, and don’t forget your hiking boots! Some parts of the walk can get very wet. Check out the map of the walk here.
Kasteel Commanderie
Once home to an order of knights, this unique hidden gem of Belgian history is a great architectural sight to see on any walk. Turn your hike into a fairytale dream by exploring just a little bit further at Bron van de Voer, the source of the Voer river at Kasteel Commanderie. It's a little-known, secluded photo spot where you can experience the serenity of nature away from the crowds. Check out the charming gate close to the castle on Commanderie 7, 3792.
Looking for a hike that starts at the castle? You can spend 2 hours wandering the historic grounds on an easy-going 7km loop around the castle. See the map of the route and easily make it longer or shorter depending on what kind of walk you want.
