**This local small park is your green escape with trees, plants and lovely ponds. Plus, two playgrounds for your little ones to run around in. **
If Bois de la Cambre, one of Brussels most important parks, is too busy, then try out a fancier option only a few steps away: Tenbosch park (Dutch for “park in the woods”). It might be less than 3 hectares, but you really will feel like you’re in the woods when you visit it!
As pretty much every other park in the city, the history of Tenbosch park goes back a long way: in 1885, the property was purchased by the family of Jean Louis Semet, a Belgian botanist. Very soon, Mr Semet (who initially named the park after his family) turned the area into a beautiful dendrological garden by growing a huge variety of plants and trees. In 1982, then, the Brussels region purchased the property: they developed it into a public park -- which opened in 1986 -- and made sure to preserve the “spirit” of the original garden.
