**This local small park is your green escape with trees, plants and lovely ponds. Plus, two playgrounds for your little ones to run around in. **

If Bois de la Cambre, one of Brussels most important parks, is too busy, then try out a fancier option only a few steps away: Tenbosch park (Dutch for “park in the woods”). It might be less than 3 hectares, but you really will feel like you’re in the woods when you visit it!

As pretty much every other park in the city, the history of Tenbosch park goes back a long way: in 1885, the property was purchased by the family of Jean Louis Semet, a Belgian botanist. Very soon, Mr Semet (who initially named the park after his family) turned the area into a beautiful dendrological garden by growing a huge variety of plants and trees. In 1982, then, the Brussels region purchased the property: they developed it into a public park -- which opened in 1986 -- and made sure to preserve the “spirit” of the original garden.

  • Incredibly rich: today, Tenbosch park is still home to a huge variety of trees. So much so that over 70 of its trees are included in the list of remarkable trees of the Region, and some are even unique specimens in the whole country!
  • Peace and quiet: this is a very small park, covered by walls, tucked in some very busy streets and with a lot of trees, bushes and passages. You know what this means? You will hardly find a quieter spot in Brussels. The perfect place to chill and enjoy some privacy.
  • A different park: unlike most parks in the city, Tenbosch is fenced, always guarded and closed at night. So nobody can damage its beautiful plants!
  • A lot to do, for everyone: take your kids along, there are two playgrounds for them. And if you’re into sports, you’ll love the tennis and basketball courts.
  • Not just flora: it’s only natural that all these different trees also attract a lot of birds. Here you can spot robins, wood pigeons, blackbirds, craws and many others. Moreover, you can also expect to see rabbits, dormouses and squirrels pop up!
