Sun your way through the day with a dip in the Semois river at Nawés beach.
Sun’s out? Pack your swimmers and make your way to Herbeumont to enjoy a delightful day sunning on the banks of the river Semois. The beach is typical of the valley as the river is lined with lawns, perfect for you to lay down your towel on. If you’d rather stay off the grass there are plenty of cabins and benches to adopt for the day.
The beach is located upstream of the dam meaning it has a water level of 1m - 1.2m at its deepest point. Just the right level to cool down on a hot August afternoon!
Keen for a walk? Nawés beach is the starting point of the Pierre Perrin nature walk which meanders along the Semois and takes you past the ruins of the medieval castle of Herbeumont. The path is well signed and joins other routes if you fancy a detour.
With super little ones? If you’d rather go somewhere with shallower water that’s more toddler-friendly, try the small Antrogne beach, a bit further down river. It’s located opposite the Hotel Prieuré de Conques and has a barbecue area for the perfect picnic.
Nearby sights to see
Check out the impressive Viaduct of Conques, 45 metres high and built by the Germans during the First World War. It’s a little way up the river from Nawés, but worth the 5 minute drive that will take you over the bridge itself. Plus, you’ll go right past Herbeumont Castle!
The ruins of Herbeumont Castle sit atop a rocky outcrop looking out over the Semois valley, village and river below. If you feel like adding some culture to your beach day, tie in a visit to this medieval heritage site, if only just for the views!
