A newly developed area of Nekkerspoel, the Douaneplein in Mechelen has something for you.

Just leaving the inner city, you will find yourself passing the Douaneplein. Here you can find, of course, the UGC cinemas and the Nekkerhal convention hall. But, there’s even more fun to be found on an urban adventure. Locals and college students all hang out here.

• What to do: get active! Try out rock climbing, yoga, or a circus workshop at the Klimkaffee in collaboration with the adjacent projects such as circus school Circolito.

• Visit the large skatepark popular amongst the youth of the city. There is also an ice skating rink if that is more of your thing just next to the movie theatre.

• If you’re around in time, catch the Plateau summer bar that hosts music events and food trucks. Otherwise for the rest of the year, De Loods, an event venue known for its themed college parties and nightlife is always a great choice for entertainment.

• Douaneplein is one of THE fave hang out spots of Mechelen’s millennials and even Gen Z. It’s been spruced up by Mechelen city with new bars, event venues, and tons of things to do.
