**If you want to learn more about this interesting town, Stadsmuseum should be your first stop. You’ll find a bit of everything here!
**
The City Museum (Stadsmuseum Lier) has a mishmash of art and items that show Lier’s history from a 3D construction of a mammoth to a mini hallway of Lier’s famous. Drop by to get the history deets on this amazing place.
- The highlight of the museum is definitely the last room. In the style of a salon, the museum displays some really pretty fine art pieces.
- The City Museum is split into different sections. In “Lier makes it” you’ll find a room dedicated to Lier’s craftsmanship. Drop by “The Golden Cabinet” to see walls of art by Lier’s artists.
- The mammoth is in the “Fier Lier” section of the. You really can’t miss it. You’ll see a wall of portraits of people from Lier who put the city on the map.
- There isn’t an audio guide or a brochure, really. You get to wander around at your own pace. You’ll find descriptions and explanations of each piece right beside it.
- Have you ever tried to make lace before? Lace for Lier is a bit different anyway. It’s made by embroidering on tulle with crochet and yarn. You can try it yourself at the museum.
- Throughout the museum you’ll probably spot the illustrated poem Path of the Cat on the walls. It’s in Dutch and features an author chasing after a cat in Lier while an illustrator follows along.
- More of a night owl? We can relate. The museum sometimes hosts night tours where you can see in their archives, but you have to book online.
