**An abandoned cemetery in Uccle. Beautiful and a little creepy, Dieweg is one of those walking spots you won’t forget. **

Gravestones and mausoleum lie quietly in rest covered in Mother Nature’s blanket of ivy. Shaded by trees and other plants, the cemetery is one the most unusual places in the Brussels Region. Dieweg cemetery is visited by trekkers of all kinds from cyclists on the Green Walk, Brussels locals, and wandering poets.

The cemetery has many notable gravestones including the creator of Tintin, Art Nouveau architect Paul Hankar, and Belgian politician and feminist Isabelle Gatti de Gamond. That’s one heck of a lineup!

Tintin is an iconic comic character of Belgium! But did you know that his creator, Georges Remi, is buried in this cemetery? Some Tintin fans still leave flowers here to pay respect to his memory. There’s also a local legend that Tintin himself appears on All Saint’s Day to visit his creator.

Tons of nature! Abandoned and left to nature since 1958, Cemetery Dieweg is one the highlights of the famous Green Walk of Brussels. Flowers and trees are in abundance at home alongside the gravestones. The cemetery is also home to some of the local foxes of Uccle - if you’re lucky you might just spot one. Plus, it’s super close to Wolvendael Park. If you’re looking for a quiet stroll close to Brussels, Dieweg is just a 20 minute drive away.
