Austria, along with neighboring Switzerland, is the winter sports center of Europe. However, it is just as popular for summer tourists who visit its historic cities and villages and hike in the magnificent scenery of the Alps. Austria has a big number of lakes. Normally they are very clean, so you can swim in them; they provide camping places nearby. In winter you can use them for ice skating. In some places, you will have to pay to get on the lakeside. Beside all that rustic, tranquil nature and countryside, Austria has a whole other side too. As one of Europe's former great powers, Austria boasts a wealth of majestic architecture and historic structures. As it was long a centre of power in the Holy Roman Empire, you'll find not only palaces and magnificent city architecture but also grand cathedrals, monasteries and churches.

The Arts are an important part of the Salzburger tradition: home to Mozart and the annual Salzburg Festival. This makes it a wonderful place to experience both the high culture of the Mozart era and the true alpine Austrian culture at its purest. Salzburg Old Town with its world famous baroque architecture, is one of the best-preserved city centers in the German-speaking world and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nature is also really beautiful around the area. Krimml, Europe's Highest Waterfalls, the water of the Ache river falls in 3 cascades. You can reach the top of the falls on a wide and well maintained path. You can also have a walk in the National Park Hohe Tauern, the biggest national park in Austria and one of the biggest in Europe.

St Peter's Abbey (German: Stift Sankt Peter), or St Peter's Archabbey (German: Erzabtei Sankt Peter, Latin: Archiabbatia sancti Petri Salisburgensis), is a Benedictine monastery and former cathedral in the Austrian city of Salzburg. It is considered one of the oldest monasteries in the German-speaking area, and in fact the oldest with a continuous history since its foundation in 696.
