Gyumri

Located in West Asia on the Armenian Highlands, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran to the south. The terrain is mostly mountainous, with fast flowing rivers, and few forests. The land rises to 4,090 metres above sea level at Mount Aragats. The climate in Armenia is markedly highland continental. Summers are dry and sunny, lasting from June to mid-September. Evening breezes blowing down the mountains provide a welcome refreshing and cooling effect. Springs are short, while autumns are long. Autumns are known for their vibrant and colourful foliage. Winters are quite cold with plenty of snow. Winter sports enthusiasts enjoy skiing down the hills of Tsakhkadzor, located thirty minutes outside Yerevan.

Armenia

It borders Turkey to the west, and Georgia to the north. It’s capital and largest city is Gyumri. The province is mainly dominated by the Ashotsk Plateau at the north and the Shirak Plain at the centre and the south. The Bazum and Pambak mountains surround the vast plains from the east. Besides all of this nature interest, many tourists visit the region for the cultural heritage: fortresses, archaeological sites, churches, monasteries… Do not miss the 7th century Harichavank Monastery, a must-see destination.

Shirak

The Mother Armenia monumental statue is a female personification of Armenia, located in the city of Gyumri. It resembles the monumental complex of Mother Armenia in the capital Yerevan. It was erected in 1975 on a hill west of Gyumri city. It was composed by sculptors Ara Sargsian and Yerem Vartanyan. The architect is Rafik Yeghoyan.
