Discover activities in your own backyard with Live the World

Belgian-based start-up launches free travel platform focusing on local tourism that’s Covid proof

Antwerp, Belgium | Date: 10 December 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we travel. We prefer staying closer to home and being outside as much as possible. At this point, we’ve already visited most of the well-known places closeby and it’s difficult to discover new, exciting places to go and things to do. With the recently launched travel planning platform Live the World, you can discover more than 140 new places and activities in Belgium.

“There are so many beautiful places in Belgium but people don’t really know about them. An all-in-one user-friendly platform to easily find something new and interesting is missing”, says Zoë Vets, one of the founders of Live the World. “On websites like TripAdvisor, you mostly find information about commercial tours and activities, but not about that small beautiful park that you didn’t know about, or street art in a city further away.”

Live the World offers a solution. At livethe.world visitors will find a map with more than 140 activities. You can customize the map view with filters like "Feeling Adventurous", "Artsy Fartsy" and "What a Sight". Interested in an activity? If you click further, you will find all the information, tips and tricks and yes… also the relevant COVID information. As long as the virus is still around, an additional "COVID proof" filter is available; it is regularly updated based on which places and activities are open.

Time and effort saved

“The current Covid pandemic has reinforced the “slow travel” trend that was already emerging. People are more and more looking for unique, smaller-scale experiences, and avoiding the major tourist attractions.” says Joris Vanherp, co-founder of Live the World.

“When we plan a trip, we usually use travel guides, blogs and social media. However,  most of these sources cover the tourist hot-spots and it takes a lot of time and energy  to find and keep track of interesting and unique activities. Simply put, there is information overload. Live the World users can quickly and easily find information about activities and places they are interested in. We also want to use artificial intelligence in the future to make personalized recommendations and itineraries.”

Plan your trip in 1 single place

Live the world’s mission is simple: making travel planning fun, by combining a user-friendly platform with inspirational, trust-worthy travel information. Now, the focus is on launching with activities in Flanders. In 2021, the platform will cover Belgium and neighboring countries. Afterwards, the rest of the world will be put on the map.

Zoë Vets, co-founder of Live the World, puts the company’s future vision this way: “Imagine, post-covid, finally planning a 2-week trip to that faraway location you’ve been dreaming of since lockdown. You log into your account, get personalized recommendations and read all the relevant information in one single place. Now you have a just-for-you itinerary tailored to your likes and dislikes, available for download right on your phone.”

About Live the World - Live the World was founded by Zoë Vets and Joris Vanherp in Antwerp, Belgium. The idea was born out of the frustration they experienced when planning their trips. So much research has to be done, the available information is of mixed quality and there is no overarching platform that makes planning user-friendly and digestible. The company is an early-stage start-up looking to disrupt the travel content industry and create a global revolutionary trip planning platform.
